Best practices for installing R packages

I tried to run some R code that requires a few different packages to run and it prompted me to install them in a folder under my "P:". Are there any other ways, or do you have to build and place the packages in your "P:"?

Best practices is to not use P: for installed packages. P: is best used for data. Create a folder under /local/data1 with your username and have a sub folder with a suitable name.

You can then change the default library path when you run R. See Change R default library path using .libPaths in Rprofile.site fails to work.
